A YouGov survey carried out in the first quarter of 2021 revealed that nearly a quarter of parents (22% – rising to 29% for parents with children under the age of four years old) wished to prioritise social interactions for their child above all else this year. 20% were keen to build on their children’s academic knowledge, and 16% felt that more outdoor experiences were critical. 13% of parents wanted to see their children reduce time spent on tech and social media; 10% preferred to build extracurricular skills and 6% felt that more exercise was the key priority.

Reconnecting children with each other and building new friendships and confidence in a safe environment sits at the heart of SuperCamps’ holiday provision. Verifying the YouGov survey, this summer saw SuperCamps welcome 11,000 children over 47 sites, with average attendance growing from 30 to 40 students per day as parents sought to engage their children with fun and safe social experiences after Covid-19 restrictions.

But what takes place at these camps and why are they proving so popular with parents?

Ben Reynolds, Managing Director of SuperCamps says: “Our camps offer children the opportunity to develop important skills such as teamwork, creativity, being active and interacting with others.  Our fully trained staff and fun Multi-Activity curriculum helps children rebuild social skills and confidence whilst mixing safely and securely with their peers in a safe and fun environment”.

Quality staff are central to the running of these camps. Aside from recruiting Early Years Practitioners and Activity Leaders who can deliver a range of exciting and varied activities and understand how to enthusiastically engage children (60% are full or nearly qualified teachers), all employees undergo an enhanced DBS clearance and reference checks.

A fresh agenda of activities is also fundamental to retaining interest – no two days at the camps are the same and a Theme of the Week presents anticipation and excitement before camp even begins. From sports to outdoor explorations, arts and crafts to team games, children are encouraged to stretch boundaries and try different things. New activities this summer included the roaming SuperCamps TV and the Zorb Bump and Bounce – both sure-fire winners!
