Active Learning Group (ALG) are delighted to announce the acquisition of The Towers Outdoor Education Centre in Snowdonia. Following last week’s news that Sealyham Active Learning Centre will open under ALG ownership in 2022, The Towers will become the organisation’s third centre, re-opening as The Towers Active Learning Centre.

The planned development of The Towers Active Learning Centre marks a significant step in the creation of a class-leading portfolio of dedicated outdoor learning centres. Each Centre strives to develop character and essential skills while promoting wellbeing through adventurous and environmentally focused activities. Based in the heart of Snowdonia National Park, in some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in the UK, the focus will be on mountain-based activities to complement and build on the existing woodland (Cuffley) and coastal (Sealyham) Active Learning Centres. The centre made national headlines in 2015 when it was visited by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who took part in abseiling and climbing as part of a campaign to highlight mental health with the charity Mind.

The Towers will undergo a full refurbishment to repair and modernise the centre before it opens, currently anticipated to be Autumn 2022.

Pat Milston, Managing Director for Active Learning Centres, said:

“Having personally led many school groups on adventure and field trips to Snowdonia, I’m very excited that we have now secured The Towers as our third Active Learning Centre. What The Towers enables us to do is provide a complete outdoor education pathway for students that will allow them to build skills and character in different locations and learn through real, age-appropriate, experiences. As with Sealyham and Cuffley, the goal is very much to develop The Towers into a high quality and inspirational outdoor learning experience that places Essential Skills, Character and Wellbeing at the centre.”

Nigel Miller, CEO for Active Learning Group added:

“The Towers is an exciting venture for ALG which complements our existing Active Learning Centres and will add new activities to our outdoor education provision. We are very much looking forward to bringing The Towers on board and delivering some fantastic experiences for young people in this stunning location. We’re also pleased to have been able to rescue The Towers from permanent closure in an area that has lost numerous outdoors centres over recent years. As such, this exciting development will create a new chapter in the proud history of outdoor education in Snowdonia.”
